Protected Areas Management

Northern Bioscience has worked in and provided expertise to national parks in both Canada and the United States, as well as in Ontario's provincial parks, conservation reserves, and enhanced management areas. Northern Bioscience has conducted life and earth science inventories in over 70 protected areas in northern Ontario, played a key support role in the development of the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area (NMCA), participated in the Pimachiowin Aki UNESCO proposal, and regularly assist ENGOs.


We can put together a team of biologists, planners, archeologists, and other professionals to deliver the following services:

  • earth and life science field surveys including Species at Risk
  • archaeological and cultural resource desktop studies and field surveys
  • wildlife and vegetation inventory, research, monitoring, and management
  • preparation and review of park management plans and resource-specific plans
  • gap analysis and identification of biodiversity "hotspots"
  • identification of environmentally sensitive areas (ESA) and appropriate zoning
  • human use / recreation / human impact studies
  • mapping, GIS services and technology transfer;
  • development of interpretive materials and programs
  • public consultation
